Privacy policy

Draft. This is a first version and still needs to be checked by an advisor. Company details will follow.

We keep it simple: we collect as little as we can and we sell nothing. Here is what we keep, and why.

Who we are

Trek Menu makes a visual QR menu for cafés, bars and restaurants. For privacy questions, email [email protected].

This website

  • On your first visit, a cookie banner asks which cookies you allow. You can change your choice any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page.
  • Necessary: the cc_cookie cookie remembers your choice, for 6 months.
  • Analytics (only with your consent): through Google Tag Manager we load Google Analytics. It shows us how visitors use the website, such as which pages they view, which buttons they click and whether they send the form. Google Analytics sets the _ga and _ga_* cookies for this, which last up to 2 years. Without consent, Google sets no cookies and only receives anonymous signals without a cookie id (Google Consent Mode).
  • Marketing (only with your consent): lets us measure whether our Google Ads work: whether someone requests a demo after clicking an ad. Google Ads sets the cookies _gcl_au and _gcl_aw for this, which last up to 90 days.
  • Cloudflare, which protects and speeds up our website, counts visits without cookies.
  • We never send names, email addresses or phone numbers to Google.
  • Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means Google sees your IP address.
  • Our hosting provider keeps technical logs to run the website securely.

The demo request form

  • What: your name, your venue’s name, the city, your email and/or phone number, the type of place and your message. We also store the language and the page you sent the form from, and how you found the website: the first page you saw, the website that linked to us, and the campaign or ad (such as a Google Ads click id) if you came through a link or an ad. Your browser only remembers this while the tab is open.
  • Why: to contact you about a demo. The legal basis is your consent, which you give with the checkbox.
  • How long: up to 12 months after our last contact, unless you become a customer.
  • Shared with: no one, except the providers that help us run the service (hosting, and our email service, Cloudflare or Resend, which emails your request to us and sends you a confirmation).
  • Confirmation: if you fill in your email address, we send you one email to confirm we’ve got your request. No newsletter.

The guest menu

When a guest opens a café’s menu, we process data on behalf of that café.

  • We set one cookie with a random, anonymous visitor id. It lasts 180 days. Guests don’t create an account.
  • We count what happens in the menu, such as dishes viewed, searches and orders, to give the café insights. We don’t store IP addresses with this data.
  • Orders (what was ordered, for which table, and any note for the kitchen) go to the café.
  • We show no ads and sell no data.

Your rights

You can ask us what data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, and object to how it’s used. You can withdraw your consent at any time. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
